Jill and Heather have written an awesome article on what it’s like to raise pigs. Heather sets her plan and goes on her first adventure of raising pigs (eventually eat). But one pig stands in her way (Loudy Pants – named by her daughter) is now there pet pig! Heather will tell you the pros and cons of her experience so far and manages to get that pork on the table! (not loudy pants!)… Makes an interesting read if you are thinking of raising your own pigs! Check out Lil Moo’s tips below:

  • Shelter – They need a shelter with bedding to snuggle down in and stay warm and dry.
  • Feed – Depending on how many pigs you decide to keep, you may want to go to a bulk feed, which is more economical.
  • Health – A hog’s primary goal in life is to eat.  If they stop doing that, something is seriously wrong!
  • Fencing – Do not surround a pig pen with metal panels or plywood.  They cannot get air to cool them off in the summer.  Your pen is only as good as the effort and construction that you put into it.
  • Water – Pigs need a constant supply of fresh water and the best method I have seen is to install a water nipple.
