You can compost at home with one of many commercially available compost bins, but making your own compost bin is really easy. Depending on the type of compost bin you choose you can build a compost bin in a matter of minutes-for little money-and be on your way to reducing the waste you send to the landfill. Given enough time, all biodegradable material will compost. Anyone with a few extra square feet (even inside your kitchen or out on a deck or balcony) can produce compost! All composting requires three basic ingredients:

  • Browns – This includes materials such as dead leaves, branches, and twigs.
  • Greens – This includes materials such as grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps, and coffee grounds.
  • Water – Having the right amount of water, greens, and browns is important for compost development.

A compost bin is easy to build, and cleaner and more convenient than a compost pile. If you’ve been meaning to build one for a long time or very recently got the green thumb, check out these tutorials via the link below and find out how you could build your very own! There are also tips on how to compost! Good luck, happy composting!
