Heating on the Cheap Flower Pot Trick!
Feeling chilly and don’t want to turn up the heat? Here’s a cheap and easy alternative to heating a small room – tealights and flowerpots! How does it work? Heat convection occurs in the gap between the two plant pots. This hot air is then funnelled out of the top of the larger plant pot. At the same time, the surface of the plant pots becomes warm, radiating heat into the room. Be very careful if trying this at home, as the plant pots will become very hot. You will need four candles and two plant pots to heat a small room. There’s no logical reason why you can not multiply this approach and set up a number of ad-lib ‘radiators’ around the room, although the larger the room, the further the hot air is required to travel. So if you’re living in a studio apartment or a small dorm, this might just do the trick for you! Just a thought before you try:
*** This will get VERY HOT! DO NOT TOUCH THEM without oven gloves!
*** NEVER leave a naked flame unattended
*** Blow candles out before you leave the room
*** Please be aware that paraffin is toxic – you need to ventilate the room if you try this out
