As parents, of course we want to protect our children — from danger, from upset, from things not turning out how they hoped. But we also need to realize that it’s not just okay, but essential, to let our children make mistakes. We kind of need to give up on My Way or the Highway type of control just a wee bit and by doing so we empower our children and watch them grow up more confidently and passionately.
We need to trust our children to be able to make the right decisions. We need to allow them to make mistakes and learn from them. We need to not get mad when that happens, why? What’s the point in getting that mad?
