Do you have an afternoon to kill with a beloved tot or two? Here’s an activity to keep you busy, have a blast, and teach your kids about how paper is made. It’s not only a really fun craft for them, but you can also instill in them the value of recycling by showing them how much effort can go into just making one piece of paper. Never made your own paper before? Here’s a quick and easy article to guide you.

This article in particular uses supplies from a special activity box, but you can easily find the materials needed in your home. This article lists them off, and you can use the pictures to see if what you have will work for this project. It’s not messy and won’t take an incredible amount of time, however the paper should have ample drying time — you will probably have to wait to let it dry overnight.

Shredding, shaking, sifting, and setting, your kids will love this activity. You can use the paper you make for birthday invitations, letters to grandmas, and much much more. Have a blast teaching your kids about how recycling works by using recycled shreds of used paper, and bolster their creative energy by showing them they can by DIYers too!
